The following are frequently asked questions regarding the Mississippi Trauma System

Q. Where can I find examples of patient care guidelines for any level Trauma Center?
A. Some Trauma Centers in the State have these guidelines. Also the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma has a web site with examples of these at www.east.org.

Q. Where can I find examples of activation criteria?
A. Trauma Centers in each Region have examples of this criteria. Most Regions have established universal activation criteria for the Centers in that Region to use.

Q. How many Level I Trauma Centers are there?
A. One instate and one out of state in the Trauma System.

Q. How many Level II Trauma Centers are there?
A. There are five Level II Trauma Centers

Q. How many Level III Trauma Centers are there?
A. There are sixteen Level III Trauma Centers.

Q. How many Level IV Trauma Centers are there?
A. There are forty seven Level IV Trauma Centers.

Q. How can I learn how to run reports from the Trauma Registry?
A. There are several classes through the year to help with generating reports from Trauma One Registry. The Basic Reporting class is taught at the MS State Department of Health. This class gives an understanding of how to set up reports and what data you are looking for in these reports. This class is recommend prior to the Advanced which is more in-depth in the reporting structure.

Q. How can I get a copy of the Mississippi Trauma System Rule and Regulations?
A. These are on the Trauma Web site. Also you can call the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and request a copy or copies of these.

Q. How does a Hospital get into the Trauma System? 
A. To begin the process a hospital needs to send a letter to the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services requesting to enter the Trauma System at the Level desired with Administration and Medical Staff signature on it.

Q. When is the Trauma Registry data due to be submitted to the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services?
A. To the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services it is due April1st and October 1st. Each Trauma Care Region requires Trauma Centers to submit this to them prior to these dates to submit it to the Bureau of EMS by these dates.

Q. When do I receive my reimbursement funds?
A. Qualified claims are submitted to Horne CPA firm, then the MS State Department of Health, Bureau of EMS submits funds to the seven Trauma Care Regions for qualified Physicians and Trauma Centers. The Regions then disburse these funds to the correct Physician and Trauma Center.
